Individuals who worked as readers for Kasamba in California at any time between Sept. 9, 2020, and Aug. 13, 2025, may qualify to claim a cash payment from a class action settlement.
Kasamba Inc. agreed to pay $1.4 million to resolve a class action lawsuit alleging it violated California wage-and-hour laws. The lawsuit claimed Kasamba misclassified its readers as independent contractors and failed to pay all required wages.
Who are the class members?
Class members must meet all of the following criteria:
- They worked as a reader for Kasamba in California.
- Kasamba employed them at any point between Sept. 9, 2020, and Aug. 13, 2025.
The settlement administrator will use Kasamba’s records to identify eligible individuals. Class members who received a settlement notice did so because Kasamba’s records indicate they are part of the class.
This includes both current and former readers as long as their work for Kasamba in California falls within the specified dates.
How much can class members receive?
Pro rata payment: The total settlement fund is $1,400,000. After deducting attorneys’ fees, litigation costs, service awards and settlement administration expenses, the settlement administrator will distribute the remaining funds among class members based on their work history and earnings. The amount each class member will receive depends on several factors, including:
- The length of time they worked as a reader for Kasamba in California
- The number of hours and weeks they worked during the class period
- The number of calls or sessions they conducted
- Their individual earnings during the class period
This means that individuals who worked longer or conducted more sessions are likely to receive a larger payment than those who worked less.
No claim form needed to receive payment
Class members do not need to file a claim to receive their payment. If the court approves the settlement, the administrator will automatically mail paper checks to the address on file for each class member. There is no online claim form or downloadable PDF claim form required for this settlement.
Those who need to update their address or have questions about their eligibility can contact the settlement administrator by email at info@ReaderSettlement.com or by phone at 888-369-3780.

Why did this class action settlement happen?
The class action lawsuit alleged Kasamba violated California wage-and-hour laws by misclassifying readers as independent contractors and failing to pay all required wages. The claims included violations of the California Labor Code and the Private Attorneys General Act.
Kasamba denied all allegations but agreed to settle the case to avoid the cost and risk of continued litigation.
