On April 8, 2025, Northeast Georgia Health System (NGHS) disclosed a data breach to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, affecting approximately 21,000 individuals. According to the breach report available on the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services' breach portal, the unauthorized access happened due to a hacking/IT incident in NGHS's network server.

Northeast Georgia Health System has also published a Data Security Breach notice on its own website.

If you believe you may have been affected by this breach or have received a notification from NGHS, consider taking the following steps:

  • Enroll in the complimentary credit monitoring and identity protection services provided by NGHS.
  • Regularly monitor your credit reports and financial statements for unusual or suspicious activity.
  • Report any suspicious activity immediately to your bank, insurance provider, or healthcare provider.
  • Contact NGHS directly for further assistance or questions regarding this breach.

For more information about NGHS, please visit the official Northeast Georgia Health System website.

Protect Your Data

A breach notice means your personal details could be circulating far beyond the organization involved. One practical step is continuous monitoring: services such as Identity Defender (included with an ExpressVPN subscription) can automatically check dark-web markets, flag new credit-file activity, and request removal of your information from data-broker sites.

This kind of “early-warning system” can’t undo a breach, but it can help you spot misuse quickly and limit further exposure. ExpressVPN is offering 61% off, risk-free for 30 days, with ID Theft Insurance included and no extra cost for those who sign up for one or two years.
