
Individuals who received a notice stating the September 2024 Community Realty Management data breach may have compromised their personal information could qualify to submit a claim for up to $2,000 from a class action settlement.
Community Realty Management, now known as CRM Residential, agreed to settle a class action lawsuit alleging the company failed to adequately protect consumer data during a cyberattack that occurred between Sept. 10, 2024 and Oct. 22, 2024. The plaintiff claimed the breach may have exposed sensitive information, such as names, Social Security numbers, driver’s license and state ID numbers, financial account details, payment card information, medical data and health insurance information.
Who can file a claim for a data breach payout?
Class members are individuals Community Realty Management identified as potentially impacted by the 2024 data breach, including those who received a notice of the incident.
How much are settlement payments?
Class members have the following benefit options:
- Cash payment A - Documented costs: Class members can claim up to $2,000 in documented, unreimbursed out-of-pocket losses traceable to the data breach. This includes losses from identity theft or fraud, fees for credit reports or monitoring, costs to replace IDs and postage to financial institutions.
- Cash payment B - Alternate cash payment: Class members who do not submit a documented costs claim can submit a claim to receive a a one-time cash payment estimated at $20. The settlement administrator will determine the final payment amount by the number of claims filed.
- Credit monitoring: All class members are also eligible for two years of CyEx Financial Shield Complete credit monitoring, which includes $1 million in identity theft insurance and monitoring for fraud, identity theft, unauthorized financial and high-risk transactions, and access to a fraud resolution agent if needed.
How to claim a class action rebate
To claim a settlement payment, class members can file a claim online or print the PDF claim form to complete and mail to the settlement administrator.

Required claim information and proof
- Online claims require the login ID and PIN from the settlement notice the class member received.
- Documented cost claims require supporting documentation, which may include bank or credit card statements, receipts or other proof showing the loss or expense and their relation to the data breach.

When is the Community Realty Management data breach settlement payout date?
The settlement administrator will issue payments to approved claimants approximately 75 days after the court grants final approval of the settlement.
Why is there a class action settlement?
The class action lawsuit claimed Community Realty Management discovered suspicious activity in its email system in October 2024. An investigation allegedly revealed unauthorized access to certain email accounts, potentially exposing sensitive personal information. The complaint claimed Community Realty Management failed to adequately protect consumer private information.
CRM Residential denies any wrongdoing but agreed to settle to avoid the risk and expense of further litigation.
