
New York City Regional Center LLC, a federally designated EB-5 regional center based in New York City, disclosed a data breach involving sensitive personal information. The total number of people affected across the United States has not been disclosed, although 115 Massachusetts residents were identified as affected.
New York City Regional Center disclosed it had experienced a cybersecurity incident that may have compromised personal information for individuals.
At this time, the company did not share details about the nature of the incident due to requirements imposed by Massachusetts law.
Because of this, several important facts about the breach remain unknown. These include when the breach took place, when it was discovered, how attackers gained access to the company's systems and whether a specific threat actor has been identified.
The types of personal information exposed included driver's license numbers, financial account information and Social Security numbers.
The breach was reported to the Massachusetts Office of Consumer Affairs and Business Regulation on Aug. 5, 2026.
New York City Regional Center is offering affected individuals two years of free credit monitoring and identity protection services through Kroll. The services include single bureau credit monitoring, fraud consultation and identity theft restoration.
Affected individuals can activate their monitoring services by visiting Kroll's enrollment page and entering the membership number included in their notification letter. Each letter also includes a deadline by which the services must be activated.
The company has also set up a dedicated call center to answer questions about the incident and the services being offered. The call center is available Monday through Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Eastern Time, excluding major U.S. holidays.
