The bank posted a notice on its website disclosing the incident.
On Monday, Aug. 3, 2026, Sawyer Savings Bank experienced a technical disruption affecting portions of its network. The disruption was enough to force the temporary closure of all of the bank's branch locations, cutting off in-person banking for customers across the region.
An investigation into the disruption subsequently revealed that the situation was likely the result of a data security incident, possibly resulting from a vulnerability involving one of its vendors.
The investigation remains ongoing.
The bank has not yet identified what specific types of personal information, if any, may have been compromised. Its investigation is focused on determining what data may have been affected and identifying the individuals whose information may be involved.
Sawyer Savings Bank is working around the clock to securely restore its systems and reopen its branch locations. In the meantime, the bank said customers can continue to access their accounts through online and mobile banking. Deposits, withdrawals and balance inquiries are all available through those digital channels.
