Sawyer Savings Bank Data Breach Impacts Operations

Sawyer Savings Bank, a community bank headquartered in Saugerties, New York, reported that it experienced a data security incident in early August 2026. The total number of individuals who may be affected has not yet been determined.

The bank posted a notice of the incident on its website, as well as filed a disclosure with the attorneys general of Massachusetts and Vermont.

On Monday, Aug. 3, 2026, Sawyer Savings Bank experienced a technical disruption affecting portions of its network. The disruption was enough to force the temporary closure of all of the bank's branch locations, cutting off in-person banking for customers across the region.

An investigation into the disruption subsequently revealed that the situation was likely the result of a data security incident, possibly resulting from a vulnerability involving one of its vendors.

The specific types of personal information compromised included Social Security numbers.
