Consumers who received direct notice that their private information may have been impacted by the August 2025 NJ Lenders Corp. data breach may qualify to submit a claim for up to $2,500 from a class action settlement.

NJ Lenders Corp. agreed to settle a class action lawsuit alleging the company failed to adequately protect private information during a targeted cyberattack in August 2025. The data breach compromised names and Social Security numbers of approximately 30,000 individuals.

Who can file a claim for a data breach payout?

Class members are individuals who received direct notice that the 2025 NJ Lenders Corp. data breach may have compromised their private information.

How much are settlement payments?

Class members have the following benefit options:

  • Cash payment A - Documented losses: Class members can claim up to $2,500 for documented, unreimbursed out-of-pocket losses that occurred between Aug. 18, 2025, and Oct. 1, 2026, and are traceable to the data breach. This may include losses from identity theft or fraud; fees for credit reports, credit monitoring or freezing/unfreezing credit; costs to replace IDs; and postage to contact financial institutions. Losses or expenses that a third party already reimbursed do not qualify.
  • Cash payment B - Alternative cash: Class members who do not submit a documented losses claim can submit a claim to receive an alternative one-time $40 cash payment.
  • Credit monitoring: All class members can enroll in one free year of CyEx Financial Shield Complete. Services include $1 million of medical identity insurance; monitoring for fraud, identity theft and unauthorized or high-risk transactions; and access to a fraud resolution agent, if needed.
    • Class members do not need to submit a claim form to receive this benefit. THe settlement administrator already sent enrollment codes to all class members.

How to claim a class action rebate

To receive a settlement payment, class members can file a claim online or print the PDF claim form to complete and mail to the settlement administrator.

Required proof and claim information

  • Online claims require the login ID or PIN from the settlement notice the class member received.
  • Documented losses claims require supporting documentation, which may include receipts, invoices, bank or credit card statements or other proof of out-of-pocket expenses, fraud or identity theft.

Settlement fund

The settlement fund will include:

  • Settlement administration costs: Up to $56,414
  • Attorneys' fees and costs: Up to $280,000
  • Service awards to class representatives: Up to $2,000 each
  • Credit monitoring: Cost determined by the number enrollments
  • Documented losses and alternate cash payments: Capped at $100,000

  • Final approval hearing: Oct. 16, 2026

When is the NJ Lenders Corp. data breach settlement payout date?

The settlement administrator will issue payments to approved claimants within 120 days of the final approval date.

Why did this class action settlement happen?

The class action lawsuit claimed a targeted cyberattack impacted NJ Lenders Corp.'s computer systems in August 2025. The complaint alleged the company failed to adequately protect private information, resulting in unauthorized access to files containing personal data, such as names and Social Security numbers.

NJ Lenders Corp. denies any wrongdoing but agreed to settle to avoid the expense and risk of continued litigation.
