In April 2024, Inszone Insurance Services, LLC, a prominent insurance provider, detected unusual activity within its network environment. This led to a comprehensive investigation by a team of cybersecurity specialists. The investigation revealed that certain data stored on Inszone's systems might have been accessed without authorization.

After a thorough review to identify the affected information and individuals, the company completed its assessment on October 25, 2024. The breach impacted a total of 21,829 individuals across the United States, including five residents of Maine.

The ransomeware group, Hunters International, has taken credit for the attack and posted sample data, including exposed social security numbers, on the dark web to confirm the authenticity of the data.

Inszone Insurance Services' Response

Upon discovering the breach, Inszone Insurance Services, LLC took immediate action to address the issue. The company engaged cybersecurity experts to conduct a detailed investigation and has since implemented measures to enhance its security protocols, aiming to minimize the risk of similar incidents in the future.

Additionally, Inszone is offering affected individuals identity theft protection services through IDX, A ZeroFox Company. These services include credit and CyberScan monitoring, a $1,000,000 insurance reimbursement policy, and fully managed identity theft recovery services.

Affected individuals are encouraged to enroll in these services by February 5, 2025, to ensure their personal information is protected.

Steps for Affected Individuals

If you believe you may be affected by this data breach, there are several proactive steps you can take to safeguard your personal information:

  1. Enroll in Identity Protection Services: Take advantage of the identity theft protection services offered by Inszone through IDX. You can enroll by visiting or by calling (866) 526-0031.
  2. Monitor Your Accounts: Regularly review your account statements and credit reports for any suspicious activity. Promptly report any unauthorized transactions to your financial institution.
  3. Place a Fraud Alert: Consider placing a fraud alert on your credit report by contacting one of the three major credit reporting agencies: Equifax, Experian, or TransUnion. This will notify creditors to verify your identity before opening new accounts in your name.
  4. Consider a Security Freeze: You have the option to place a security freeze on your credit file, which prevents new credit from being opened without your consent. This can be done by contacting each credit reporting agency individually.
  5. Stay Informed: Keep abreast of any updates regarding the breach and additional recommendations from Inszone Insurance Services, LLC.

Protect Your Data

A breach notice means your personal details could be circulating far beyond the organization involved. One practical step is continuous monitoring: services such as Identity Defender (included with an ExpressVPN subscription) can automatically check dark-web markets, flag new credit-file activity, and request removal of your information from data-broker sites.

This kind of “early-warning system” can’t undo a breach, but it can help you spot misuse quickly and limit further exposure. ExpressVPN is offering 61% off, risk-free for 30 days, with ID Theft Insurance included and no extra cost for those who sign up for one or two years.
