On Oct. 25, 2025, 700Credit, LLC, a leading provider of credit reports and compliance solutions for automotive dealerships, experienced a significant data breach affecting millions of consumers nationwide. The breach disclosed personally identifiable information (PII) of millions of people, including at least 709,406 individuals in Texas.

The breach was first detected when the company noticed suspicious activity within its web application. After engaging third-party forensic specialists, 700Credit determined that an unauthorized party had copied records from its web application containing sensitive customer data.

According to a posting made on Nov. 16, 2025, on an open web hacking forum, a threat actor known as ROOTBOY claimed responsibility and advertised the sale of 8.4 million customer records allegedly obtained from 700Credit. On Dec. 12, 2025, this number was confirmed to be 5,836,561 by the Oregon Attorney General.

The investigation revealed that the compromised records included full names, addresses, dates of birth, and Social Security numbers. The exposed data set reportedly included employment information in addition to the aforementioned PII.
