Tristar Insurance Group Inc. agreed to pay more than $1 million to settle a class action lawsuit alleging it failed to adequately protect customer data, resulting in unauthorized access to sensitive information. The cybersecurity incident impacted an estimated 38,037 people.
Who can file a claim for a data breach payout?
Class members are individuals in the United States whose personally identifiable information the November 2022 data incident involving Tristar Insurance Group compromised and who received notice of the breach on or around Feb. 1, 2024.
How much will settlement payments be?
Class members have the following benefit options:
- Out-of-pocket expenses: Class members can claim up to $500 in documented out-of-pocket expenses related to the data breach.
- Lost time: Class members can claim up to four hours at $25 per hour ($100 maximum) for lost time spent dealing with the data breach.
- Extraordinary loss: Class members can claim up to $5,000 in documented extraordinary losses related to the data breach.
- Alternative cash payment: Class members who do not submit a claim for out-of-pocket expenses, lost time or extraordinary losses can submit a claim to receive an alternative cash payment. California residents can submit a claim to receive $100 and non-California residents can submit a claim to receive $40.
- Credit monitoring: All class members can elect to receive three years of three-bureau credit monitoring services.
How to claim a class action rebate
To receive a settlement payment, class members can file a claim online or print the PDF claim form to complete and mail to the settlement administrator.

When is the Tristar Insurance Group data breach settlement payout date?
