Why is there a class action settlement?
The class action lawsuit alleged SSM Health Care Corp. disclosed patients’ confidential personally identifiable information and/or protected health information to third-party technologies without patient consent. The plaintiffs claimed tracking technologies on the MyChart portal disclosed information, such as patient status, physicians, medical treatments, hospitals visited and personal identities to third-party vendors.
SSM Health denies these allegations. The parties agreed to settle to avoid the costs, risks and uncertainties of continued litigation.
