Hospital Sisters Health System agreed to pay $7.6 million to resolve a class action lawsuit alleging it failed to adequately protect sensitive information during a targeted cyberattack in August 2023.
Who can file a claim?
The class includes all individuals whose personally identifiable information or personal health information the data incident that occurred on Hospital Sisters Health System’s network systems between Aug. 16-27, 2023, compromised. Class members received a notice of the data incident.
How much can class members get?
- Documented loss payment: A cash payment for documented out-of-pocket losses up to $5,000. Eligible expenses include:
- Losses due to identity theft or fraud
- Fees for credit reports, credit monitoring or freezing/unfreezing credit
- Costs to replace IDs
- Postage to contact banks by mail
- Alternative pro rata cash payment: Instead of the documented loss payment, class members can claim a pro rata cash payment that the settlement administrator will divide equally among all claimants who select this option after deducting attorneys’ fees, service awards and administrative costs from the $7.6 million settlement fund.
- Credit monitoring: All class members can claim two years of CyEx Financial Shield, which includes financial data monitoring and up to $1 million in financial fraud insurance.
How to claim a settlement payment
Class members can file a claim online or download, print and complete a PDF claim form and mail or email it to the settlement administrator. Those who received a postcard notice can fill out the claim form, tear it at the perforation and mail it as instructed.The claim deadline is Nov. 14, 2025.

What proof or documentation is required to submit a claim?
- To file an online claim, class members must log in with the unique ID and PIN located on the settlement notice they received. Those who are unable to locate their ID and PIN should contact the settlement administrator by emailing info@HSHSDataSettlement.com or calling 844-496-1105 and providing their full name and mailing address.
- To claim reimbursement of documented out-of-pocket losses, class members must provide supporting documentation, such as receipts or bank statements.
- To claim the alternative cash payment or financial monitoring, class members simply need to select the appropriate option.
