Consumers who currently or previously owned or leased certain Subaru vehicles equipped with EyeSight driver assistance features may qualify to claim up to 75% reimbursement for out-of-pocket repair expenses and/or receive warranty benefits from a class action settlement.
Subaru of America Inc. agreed to settle a class action lawsuit alleging defects or deficiencies in the pre-collision braking, rear automatic braking and lane keep assist features of the EyeSight system in specific Subaru models.
Who are the class members?
Class members are individuals and entities who purchased or leased certain Subaru vehicles in the continental United States. Eligibility is determined by the vehicle’s model, model year and specific Vehicle Identification Number. Not every vehicle within the listed model years is included; eligibility must be confirmed using the VIN lookup portal on the official settlement website.
The following Subaru models and model years may be eligible:
- 2013-2022 Subaru Legacy
- 2013-2022 Subaru Outback
- 2015-2023 Subaru Impreza
- 2015-2023 Subaru Crosstrek
- 2014-2021 Subaru Forester
- 2019-2022 Subaru Ascent
- 2016-2021 Subaru WRX
- 2022-2024 Subaru BRZ
Who is excluded from the class?
- Used car dealers
- Anyone who purchased a settlement class vehicle for commercial resale
- Anyone who purchased a settlement class vehicle with a salvaged title
- insurance companies that acquired a vehicle as a total loss
- Insurers of settlement class vehicles
- Issuers of extended warranties or service contracts
- Anyone who previously settled with and released Subaru from related claims
How much is the Subaru payout?
Eligible class members may receive two main types of benefits: a warranty extension and reimbursement for certain past repairs.
- Warranty extension: For current owners or lessees, Subaru will extend the new vehicle limited warranty to cover 75% of the cost of a covered repair performed by an authorized Subaru retailer. This extension lasts up to four years or 48,000 miles from the vehicle’s in-service date, whichever comes first. If the warranty period expired before July 29, 2025, the extension lasts four months from that date.
- Reimbursement for past repairs: If a class member paid out of pocket for a covered repair before July 29, 2025, and within four years or 48,000 miles of the vehicle’s in-service date, they can claim reimbursement for 75% of the paid invoice for one such repair (parts and labor).
A covered repair is defined as the repair or replacement (parts and labor) of a diagnosed and confirmed malfunction or failure of the EyeSight system’s pre-collision braking, rear automatic braking or lane keep assist feature, resulting from failure of the EyeSight camera assembly and/or rear sonar sensors. Repairs due to other causes, such as brake pads, rotors, windshields, powertrain or environmental factors, are not covered.
Limitations
- If any part of the repair was already covered by Subaru, an insurer or another source, the reimbursement will be reduced by that amount.
- Only one reimbursement per vehicle is allowed for a past covered repair.
- If the repair was already fully reimbursed or performed free of charge, no additional reimbursement is available.
How to claim reimbursement or warranty extension
Class members can submit an online claim form or download, print and complete a PDF claim form to mail to the settlement administrator. The claim deadline is Sept. 27, 2025.

- Make, model and VIN of the vehicle

If the repair occurred during the original new vehicle limited warranty but was not performed by an authorized Subaru retailer, claimants must submit documentation showing they first attempted the repair at an authorized retailer or a signed declaration if such documentation is unavailable.

Why is there a class action settlement?
The class action settlement resolves allegations that Subaru of America Inc. distributed vehicles with EyeSight systems that may have defects or deficiencies in the pre-collision braking, rear automatic braking and lane keep assist features.
Subaru denies all claims and maintains the systems are not defective. The parties agreed to settle to avoid the costs and risks of litigation and to provide timely benefits to class members.
