What Happened?
In May 2024, Cooper Health System discovered unusual activity on its network. While patient care was not disrupted, Cooper immediately took steps to secure its systems and brought in independent cybersecurity experts to investigate. After a thorough review, it was determined on March 26, 2025, that an unauthorized party may have acquired certain data from Cooper’s systems.
The breach affected a total of 57,412 people in the United States. One Maine resident was specifically notified, but the impact is nationwide. Those affected were notified by written letter on May 23, 2025.
