Individuals who received a notice from Americold stating either the 2020 or 2023 data breaches potentially compromised their personal information may be eligible to claim up to $25,000 from a class action settlement. The incidents affected 141,000 individuals in 2020 and 129,000 individuals in 2023.
Americold Realty Trust and Americold Logistics LLC agreed to pay $5.25 million to settle a class action lawsuit. The complaint alleges Americold failed to properly secure and safeguard the personally identifiable and health information of employees and job applicants during two separate cybersecurity incidents in 2020 and 2023.
Who can file a claim for a data breach payout?
Class members are individuals residing in the United States who received a notice from Americold stating the data breaches that occurred in November 2020 and/or April 2023 impacted their private information.
How much are settlement payments?
Class members have the following benefit options:
- Documented losses payment: Class members can claim up to $25,000 for unreimbursed, documented losses directly related to one or both of the data breaches. Eligible expenses include costs of credit reports, credit monitoring or fraud resolution services, and other expenses and monetary losses associated with identity theft or fraud.
- Residual cash payment: Class members who do not submit a documented losses can submit a claim to receive a residual cash payment. Estimated payment amounts are:
- $200 for individuals notified of both the 2020 and 2023 data breaches
- $100 for individuals notified of only one of the data breaches
- Credit monitoring: All class members can elect to receive three years of free credit monitoring, which includes at least $1 million in identity theft protection.
How to claim a class action rebate
To receive a settlement payment, class members can file a claim online or print and fill out the PDF claim form and mail it to the settlement administrator.

Settlement fund breakdown
The $5,250,000 settlement fund will include:
- Settlement administration costs: At least $200,000
- Attorneys' fees: Up to $1,837,500 plus expenses and costs
- Service awards to class representatives: $3,000 each ($21,000 total)
- Credit monitoring: Cost determined by number of claims filed
- Payments to approved claimants: Remaining settlement fund

When is the Americold settlement payout date?
The settlement administrator will issue payments to approved claimants approximately 105 days after the court grants final approval of the settlement.
Why is there a class action settlement?
This class action lawsuit claimed Americold failed to adequately protect sensitive personal and health information during cybersecurity incidents in 2020 and 2023. The plaintiffs alleged Americold’s negligence led to unauthorized access to private information.
Americold denies the allegations but agreed to settle to avoid the expense and risk of further litigation.
