On May 29, 2025, West Texas Oral Facial Surgery was the victim of a data breach after a ransomware attack by the group INC RANSOM. The incident led to a network disruption and unauthorized access to sensitive files.

The ransomware group INC RANSOM publicly claimed responsibility for the attack on June 18, 2025, posting about it on the dark web.

According to the company’s investigation, certain files were acquired without authorization, and the types of information potentially compromised include first and last names, Social Security numbers, medical information such as imaging files (which in limited instances contained dates of birth), and reasons for seeking treatment.

The breach was reported to the Texas Attorney General’s office on Aug. 4, 2025, disclosing 9,887 residents were affected in the state. The company posted a detailed notice to consumers on its website.

West Texas Oral Facial Surgery's response

To assist those affected, West Texas Oral Facial Surgery is providing written notice to all impacted individuals. The company has set up a dedicated call center for questions and support, which can be reached at 1-833-397-4916 from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Central Time, Monday through Friday, excluding holidays.

The company has not found evidence that any individual’s information has been misused as a result of this event, but recommends that affected individuals remain vigilant for signs of identity theft or fraud.

Protect Your Data

A breach notice means your personal details could be circulating far beyond the organization involved. One practical step is continuous monitoring: services such as Identity Defender (included with an ExpressVPN subscription) can automatically check dark-web markets, flag new credit-file activity, and request removal of your information from data-broker sites.

This kind of “early-warning system” can’t undo a breach, but it can help you spot misuse quickly and limit further exposure. ExpressVPN is offering 61% off, risk-free for 30 days, with ID Theft Insurance included and no extra cost for those who sign up for one or two years.
