On June 11, 2025, Erie Insurance, a leading property and casualty insurance provider, disclosed a data breach affecting its network. Erie reported in an SEC filing on June 7, 2025 that the company identified suspicious activity on their internal network related to a cybersecurity incident.

While Erie Insurance has not yet released the exact number of individuals affected, exposed data may include personally identifiable information (PII) such as names, addresses, Social Security numbers, dates of birth, policy details, and potentially driver’s license numbers. Erie customers currently have six million active insurance policies, and the company has over 21,000 employees and agents.
Erie Insurance has launched an investigation and will provide updates to impacted customers and/or employees as soon as more information is available. In its statement, Erie informed customers that during this outage Erie Insurance would not be calling or emailing customers to request payments. Policyholders should not provide any personal information by phone or email, or click on any links from an unknown source.

The company is offering complimentary credit monitoring and identity protection services to impacted customers.
