Eisen Inc., a New York-based financial technology company, disclosed a data breach that occurred on Dec. 12, 2025.
Eisen provides unclaimed property compliance, escheatment and account offboarding services to banks, brokerages, digital asset exchanges and other financial institutions across the United States. As a third-party service provider that automates this process, Eisen holds personal information on behalf of its financial institution clients, meaning individuals affected by this breach may not have had a direct relationship with Eisen.
On Dec. 12, 2025, Eisen was targeted by a social engineering. A threat actor impersonated the California State Controller's Office, the state agency responsible for overseeing unclaimed property in California. The impersonator contacted the company and requested a file containing unclaimed property compliance records, making the request appear to be a routine government inquiry.
Believing the request to be legitimate, an Eisen employee provided the file to the threat actor. Shortly after sharing it, the company identified the activity as fraudulent and took action to contain the event.
The company's investigation found that the exposed file contained several types of sensitive personal information including names, mailing addresses, email addresses, Social Security numbers, dates of birth and information about unclaimed property balances.
The breach was reported to the California Attorney General on June 24, 2026. The company mailed notification letters to affected consumers on June 24, 2026.
Eisen is offering 24 months of complimentary credit monitoring and identity theft restoration services through Experian IdentityWorks at no cost to those affected. The membership includes a credit report at signup, daily credit monitoring of the individual's Experian credit file, access to identity restoration specialists and $1 million in identity theft insurance coverage.
Affected individuals can enroll in the credit monitoring program by Aug. 31, 2026, using the activation code included in their notification letter. Those with questions about the breach or who need help with identity restoration can call the toll-free assistance line at 833-931-4422, available Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Central Time, excluding major U.S. holidays.
