
Ameriprise Financial Inc., a diversified financial services company headquartered in Minneapolis, disclosed a data breach in March 2026 that affected approximately 47,876 individuals in the United States, including 2,527 South Carolina residents, 2,390 Texas residents, 991 Washington residents, 583 Iowa residents, 433 New Hampshire residents, 335 Maine residents and 256 Rhode Island residents.
An unauthorized individual gained access to certain data and files stored by Ameriprise Financial, according to the company's notification to consumers. The company discovered the unauthorized access on March 18, 2026, and blocked it upon discovery.
As a result of the breach, the following sensitive information types were compromised: name, address, financial account number, date of birth, and Social Security number.
The company filed disclosures with the attorneys general of California, Iowa, Maine, New Hampshire, Nebraska, Oregon, Rhode Island, South Carolina, Texas and Washington, and began notifying affected consumers in writing on April 17, 2026.
Ameriprise is offering affected individuals 12 months of credit and identity monitoring through Equifax Complete Premier at no cost. According to the notification, the service includes three-bureau credit monitoring with email alerts, WebScan notifications when personal information is found on suspected fraudulent internet trading sites, automatic fraud alerts and identity restoration services.
The service also includes up to $1,000,000 in identity theft insurance coverage for certain out-of-pocket expenses resulting from identity theft.
To enroll, affected individuals can visit Equifax's activation page and enter the unique activation code included in their written notification letter. The enrollment process requires identity verification and does not impact credit scores.
