
Alan Gordon, CPA, a Rockville, Maryland accounting firm that has served individuals, businesses and nonprofit organizations since 1978, disclosed a data breach that may have exposed sensitive personal and financial information.
Alan Gordon, CPA experienced a data security incident in which files containing personal information were potentially accessed. The notification did not include specific dates for when the incident took place or when the firm first discovered it.
The types of information potentially exposed included names, addresses, dates of birth, Social Security numbers, driver's license or state identification numbers, bank account and routing information, tax returns, tax forms and related tax-preparation records.
The breach was reported to the Massachusetts Office of Consumer Affairs and Business Regulation on Aug. 26, 2026. The firm has begun notifying affected consumers by letter.
Alan Gordon, CPA is offering affected individuals 24 months of complimentary credit monitoring and identity restoration services through CyEx's Financial Shield Complete program.
Individuals who wish to enroll can do so by visiting the dedicated enrollment page or by calling 888-202-8529. Each affected person received a unique activation code in their notification letter, which is required to complete enrollment. The deadline to enroll is Dec. 1, 2026.
The firm cautioned in its notice that it will not call, text or email anyone to request payment, activation codes, bank passwords or IRS Online Account passwords in connection with this offer.
Individuals who have received an e-file rejection indicating that a tax return was already filed using their Social Security number, or an IRS or state tax notice about a return they did not file, should call the firm at 215-725-4042. The firm is also available at the same number during regular business hours, Monday through Friday, for general questions about the incident.
