Consumers who received notice that the February 2023 Trident Maritime Systems data breach compromised their private information may be eligible to claim up to $5,000 from a class action settlement.

Trident Maritime Systems LLC agreed to pay $210,000 to settle a class action lawsuit alleging it failed to protect personal information during a cyberattack that occurred in early February 2023. The plaintiff claimed Trident did not adequately secure files containing sensitive data, including names, Social Security numbers and dates of birth.

Who can file a claim?

The settlement class includes all individuals in the United States whose private information the Trident Maritime Systems LLC data security incident that occurred Feb. 1-10, 2023, compromised.

The settlement administrator will use Trident’s records to determine eligibility. Consumers who received a notice about the data incident or settlement are likely included as a class member.

How much is the data breach payout?

Class members can claim one of two types of awards, depending on their circumstances and preferences:

  • Option 1: Documented losses and lost time
    • Reimbursement for documented out-of-pocket losses related to the data breach up to $5,000
    • Reimbursement for lost time spent responding to the data incident up to three hours at $25 per hour for a maximum of $75
    • The total combined reimbursement for documented losses and lost time cannot exceed $5,000
  • Option 2: Alternative cash payment
    • A one-time cash payment expected to be $100
    • The actual amount may be higher or lower depending on the number of valid claims filed and the total net settlement fund after deductions for attorneys’ fees, service awards and administrative costs.
  • Credit monitoring
    • All class members are also eligible to enroll in three years of credit monitoring services, which includes $1 million in identity theft insurance, real-time monitoring at all three credit bureaus, dark web scanning and comprehensive public records monitoring.

How to claim a settlement payment

Class members can file the online claim form or download, print and complete the PDF claim form and mail or email it to the settlement administrator. The claim deadline is Nov. 26, 2025.

What proof and documentation is required to submit a claim?

  • Online claimants must provide the unique ID and PIN located on their settlement notice. Those who are unable to locate their ID and PIN should contact the settlement administrator by emailing info@TridentDataBreach.com and providing their full name and mailing address.
  • For documented loss claims, claimants must submit documentation, such as receipts, bank statements or other supporting documents showing out-of-pocket expenses related to the data incident.
  • For lost time and alternative cash pay claims, claimants must select the appropriate option on the claim form.

When is the Trident Maritime Systems settlement payout date?

The settlement administrator will distribute settlement payments after the court grants final approval and resolves any appeals.

Why did this class action settlement happen?

The class action lawsuit alleged a targeted cyberattack on Trident Maritime Systems’ computer systems in February 2023 resulted in unauthorized access to files containing personal information. The plaintiff claimed Trident failed to adequately protect this information.

Trident denies any wrongdoing, but both sides agreed to settle to avoid the costs, risks and uncertainties of further litigation.
