The plaintiff claimed Block incentivized users to send prefilled text messages to their contacts without first obtaining clear and affirmative consent from the recipients.

The class action claimed violations of the Washington Commercial Electronic Mail Act and the Washington Consumer Protection Act. Block denied any wrongdoing but agreed to settle to avoid the cost and uncertainty of further litigation and a possible trial.
