If you purchased an airline ticket from TAP Air Portugal between March 1, 2020, and December 31, 2021, and requested but did not receive a full refund for a canceled flight, you may be eligible to submit a claim for a full refund plus an additional 7% from a class action settlement.

Transportes Aereos Portugueses, S.A. (commonly known as TAP or TAP Air Portugal) has agreed to settle a class lawsuit alleging that it failed to properly refund customers for flights it canceled during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Who is eligible for an airfare refund and cash payment?

Class members must meet the following criteria:

  • They purchased one or more airline tickets from TAP Air Portugal between March 1, 2020, and December 31, 2021.
  • The purchased flight(s) were canceled by TAP Air Portugal during this period.
  • They requested a refund for the canceled flight(s) and have not received a full refund for the canceled travel as of the date their settlement claim is submitted.

How much is the class action settlement payment?

Cash refund plus an additional 7%: Approved claimants will received a full refund for qualifying ticket purchases plus an additional 7% of the ticket price.

How to claim a TAP Air Portugal class action rebate

To receive settlement payment, class members must submit a claim form by the deadline of August 5, 2025. Class members can file a claim online or download and print the PDF claim form to mail to the settlement administrator.

Required proof and information

  • Unique ID and PIN from settlement notice is required to submit an online claim.
  • All claimants must provide the following supporting documentation showing

    • Method of refund request communication: Phone, email, online forum
    • Confirmation email from TAP verifying the submission of a refund request, if received

Payout options

Approved claimants will select from the following:

  • Electronic payment
  • Paper check mailed to the address provided

TAP Air Portugal airfare settlement fund

The settlement fund will include:

  • Settlement administration costs: To be determined
  • Attorneys' fees and expenses: Up to $800,000
  • Service awards to class representatives: $5,000 each for two representatives
  • Payments to approved claimants: Determined by the number of claims filed and total ticket purchases

When is the TAP Air Portugal settlement payout date?
