Consumers who lived in the United States and received a notice stating the Self Esteem Brands data breach discovered in June 2024 may have compromised their personal information could qualify to claim up to $5,000 from a class action settlement.

Self Esteem Brands LLC, doing business as Purpose Brands, agreed to settle a class action lawsuit alleging a cybersecurity incident that occurred between Dec. 19, 2023, and June 6, 2024, potentially exposed sensitive personal information, such as:

  • Names
  • Social Security numbers
  • Tax identification numbers
  • Driver’s license numbers
  • Passport numbers
  • Financial account information
  • Payment card information
  • Health information
  • Health insurance information

Who can file a claim?

Class members must meet all of the following criteria:

  • They are a living individual residing in the United States.
  • The Self Esteem Brands security incident discovered in June 2024 may have compromised their personal information.
  • Self Esteem Brands notified them of the security incident.

How much can class members get?

  • Documented ordinary losses: Reimbursement of up to $2,000 for documented out-of-pocket expenses related to the security incident. Covered expenses include fees for credit reports, credit monitoring and freezing or unfreezing credit, costs to replace IDs and postage for contacting banks.
    • Compensation for lost time: Up to four hours at $20 per hour (maximum $80) for time spent responding to the incident, such as changing passwords or investigating suspicious activity. This amount counts toward the $2,000 cap for ordinary losses.
  • Documented extraordinary losses: Reimbursement of up to $5,000 for documented losses due to identity theft or fraud provided the data breach most likely caused them and they are not already covered by ordinary losses
  • Alternative cash payment: Instead of documented ordinary or extraordinary losses, class members may claim a one-time $25 cash payment.
  • Credit monitoring: All class members can enroll in two years of credit monitoring services, which includes $1 million in identity theft protection insurance.

How to claim a settlement payout

Class members can file a claim online or download, print and complete a PDF claim form and mail or email it to the settlement administrator. The claim deadline is Dec. 31, 2025.

What proof or documentation is required to submit a claim?

  • To claim ordinary losses, class members must provide receipts or other proof of out-of-pocket expenses.
  • To claim lost time, class members must provide a brief description and attestation.
  • To claim extraordinary losses, class members must provide bank statements or other proof of unreimbursed losses due to identity theft or fraud and evidence that they attempted to recover the loss.
  • No documentation is required to claim the alternative cash payment or credit monitoring.
  • To file an online claim form, class members must log in with the unique ID and PIN located on the settlement notice they received. Those who are unable to locate their ID and PIN should contact the settlement administrator by emailing info@SelfEsteemSettlement.com and providing their full name and mailing address.

Settlement fund breakdown

When is the Self Esteem Brands data incident settlement payout date?

The settlement administrator will distribute payments to eligible class members after the court grants final approval of the settlement and resolves any appeals.
