
California TaxSlayer customers who provided their information to the company between Feb. 6, 2018, and Nov. 17, 2022, may qualify to claim a cash payment from a class action settlement.
TaxSlayer LLC agreed to pay $1,100,000 to settle a class action lawsuit alleging violations of California’s Unfair Competition Law and False Advertising Law. The lawsuit claimed TaxSlayer used certain digital technologies on its website that improperly disclosed customer information.
Who is eligible for a TaxSlayer payout?
Eligible class members include:
- Individuals who were customers of TaxSlayer during the period from Feb. 6, 2018, to Nov. 17, 2022
- Those whose contact information is on file with TaxSlayer and will be provided to the settlement administrator for notification and claim purposes.
- Recipients of a notice from the settlement administrator indicating they are potentially eligible.
How much can class members receive?
- Pro rata payment: $840,000 will be divided equally among all approved claimants. The amount each person receives will depend on the number of valid claims submitted.
No portion of the settlement fund will be returned to TaxSlayer. If any funds remain after all payments and check expirations, those funds will be distributed to the Los Angeles County Department of Consumer and Business Affairs for future consumer protection and privacy work.
How to claim a California TaxSlayer class action rebate
Class members can file a claim online. Alternatively, they may request a paper claim form from the settlement administrator. There is no PDF claim form. The claim deadline is Sept. 9, 2025.

$1.1 million consumer privacy settlement fund breakdown
The $1,100,000 settlement fund will cover:

- Los Angeles County enforcement of consumer protection laws: $100,000
- Payments to eligible claimants: $840,000
