Current and former female employees who worked for Niantic in California at any time between July 7, 2019, and Dec. 10, 2025, may qualify to receive a cash payment from a class action settlement.

Niantic Inc. agreed to pay $8 million to settle a class action lawsuit alleging sex and gender discrimination, sexual harassment, retaliation and related workplace violations involving current and former female employees.

Who is eligible for a Niantic settlement payout?

Class members must meet the following criteria:

  • They are a current or former employee who worked for Niantic in California between July 7, 2019, and Dec. 10, 2025.
  • They self-identified as female or Niantic identified them as female during their employment.

If an individual received a notice, it is because Niantic’s records indicate they may fall within this definition. If Niantic incorrectly identified them as female, they should contact the claims administrator to correct their information. Any current or former Niantic employee can contact the claims administrator to confirm, update or correct their gender information for the purposes of this settlement.

The class also includes a group known as the Private Attorneys General Act group. Every member of this group will receive an equal share of the PAGA award allocated to plaintiffs rather than the state.

How much is the class action payment?

Cash payment: Each class member who does not opt out will receive a cash payment. The settlement administrator will determine the final payment amount by length of employment and other factors.

PAGA cash payment: All class members will receive an equal share of the PAGA allocation, which is $100,000.

The gross settlement fund is $8,000,000. Of this, the settlement allocates $4,986,000 for group/class member monetary relief and the PAGA allocation. It allocates the remaining funds for attorneys’ fees, costs and administration expenses.

The settlement allocation plan determines each eligible class member’s payment. The plan considers factors such as the length of employment and other relevant data. It considers approximately half of each payment wages (subject to payroll deductions and reported on IRS Form W-2), and the other half as emotional distress, penalties and interest (reported on IRS Form 1099).

  • Class members do not need to file a claim to receive their payment a payment.
  • Class members who wish to dispute their employment information must submit a notice of dispute in writing with supporting documentation to the settlement administrator by March 13, 2026.

Why is there a class action settlement?

The class action lawsuit alleged Niantic violated California laws by engaging in sex and gender discrimination in hiring, pay and promotion, as well as sexual harassment, retaliation, failure to prevent discrimination and harassment, and recordkeeping violations involving current and former female employees.

Niantic agreed to settle to avoid the uncertainty and expense of continued litigation and a possible trial.
