
Consumers who received a written notification from Generations Federal Credit Union stating their personal information may have been compromised in a data incident that occurred between Dec. 13, 2022, and Dec. 15, 2022, may qualify to claim up to $5,000 in cash reimbursement from a class action settlement.
Generations Federal Credit Union agreed to resolve a class action lawsuit alleging it failed to adequately protect members’ personal information, leading to unauthorized access to sensitive data.
Who can file a Generations Federal Credit Union claim?
Class members must reside in the United States and have received a written notification from Generations Federal Credit Union stating that their personal information was potentially accessed, viewed or obtained as a result of the data incident that occurred between Dec. 13, 2022, and Dec. 15, 2022.
How much is the data breach payout?
- Ordinary expense reimbursement: Up to $500 for documented expenses, such as unreimbursed bank fees, postage and gasoline for local travel related to the incident
- Lost time: Up to four hours at $20 per hour (included in the $500 cap) for time spent responding to the data incident (such as monitoring accounts or contacting institutions)
- Extraordinary losses: Up to $4,500 for documented, unreimbursed losses that were most likely caused by the data incident and not already reimbursed by insurance or other sources
- Credit monitoring: Two years of three-bureau credit monitoring and identity theft protection with at least $1,000,000 in identity theft insurance
How to claim a settlement payment
Class members can submit an online claim form or download, print, complete and and mail the PDF claim form to the settlement administrator. The deadline to submit a claim is Sept. 15, 2025.

What proof or documentation is required to submit a claim?
- All class members must provide the unique ID located on their settlement notice. Online claimants must also provide the PIN from the same notice.
- For ordinary expense reimbursement, class members must provide receipts, bank statements or other proof of out-of-pocket expenses.
- For lost time reimbursement, class members must provide a written description and attestation for lost time (with checkboxes or a narrative description).
- For extraordinary loss reimbursement, class members must provide proof of loss and evidence that they exhausted insurance coverage.
- For credit monitoring claims, class members need only select the appropriate option on the claim form.

When is the Generations Federal Credit Union data incident payout date?
Payments to class members will be made approximately 60 days after the court grants final approval of the settlement and any appeals are resolved.
Why did this class action settlement happen?
The class action lawsuit alleged Generations Federal Credit Union failed to adequately protect personal information, resulting in a December 2022 data breach. The lawsuit claimed unauthorized parties accessed sensitive data, including names, addresses, Social Security numbers and more.
GFCU denies any wrongdoing, but both sides agreed to settle to avoid the expense and uncertainty of further litigation.
