Avis Rent a Car System LLC and Avis Budget Group Inc. agreed to pay $3.08 million to settle a class action lawsuit. The plaintiffs claimed Avis failed to adequately protect customers’ personal information, resulting in a data breach that exposed sensitive data such as names, driver’s license details, credit card numbers and expiration dates, dates of birth and phone numbers.
Who can file a claim for a data breach payout?

How much are settlement payments?
Class members can submit a claim for one or both of the following benefits:
- Out-of-pocket losses: Class members can claim up to $5,000 in documented, unreimbursed monetary losses that are traceable to the data breach. The losses must have occurred between Aug. 3, 2024, and June 21, 2026, and class members must have made reasonable efforts to avoid or seek reimbursement for the loss, such as by using credit monitoring or identity theft insurance.
- Pro rata cash payment: All class members can submit a claim to receive a pro rata cash payment from the net settlement fund after the settlement administrator pays all other claims. The settlement administrator will determine the final payment amount by the total number of claims filed.
How to claim a class action rebate
To receive a settlement payment, class members can file a claim online or print the PDF claim form to complete and mail to the settlement administrator.

Class members must submit claims online or postmark them by June 21, 2026.
Required proof and claim information
- Online claims require the notice ID and confirmation code from the settlement notice.
- Mailed claims require the notice ID or last four digits of the class member's Social Security number.
- Out-of-pocket loss claims require supporting documentation showing the data breach most likely caused the monetary losses. This may include receipts, bills, bank or credit card statements showing unreimbursed fees or fraudulent charges and any other proof of identity theft.

When is the Avis data breach settlement payout date?
