Versant Health was formed in 2017 when Centerbridge Partners acquired Davis Vision and merged it with Superior Vision, creating one of the top three managed vision care companies in the United States. Versant Health manages both the Superior Vision and Davis Vision brands, serving approximately 33 to 35 million members nationwide.
In 2020, MetLife acquired Versant Health, bringing both Superior Vision and Davis Vision under its umbrella.
What happened?
Superior Vision experienced a major data breach due to an email phishing attack that took place on July 9, 2025. The incident was discovered on July 11, 2025 and it was determined that an unauthorized actor may have downloaded internal emails containing member information.
An investigation determined that the cyberattack compromised both personal and protected health information. The total number of impacted individuals has not been released but is believed to include several thousand Superior Vision benefits members. The company began notifying impacted individuals by mail in Sept. 2025.

The data breach was also disclosed to the New Hampshire Attorney General's office on Sept. 26, 2025, the Massachusetts Attorney General and California Attorney General on Sept. 29, 2025 and the Texas Attorney General on Oct. 1, 2025.
