What Happened?

The Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra experienced a data breach after servers began going on and offline on Oct. 21, 2025. Independent cybersecurity experts were brought in to investigate, and by Nov. 11, 2025, it was determined that certain sections of the network may have been accessed without authorization.

After a thorough review, the RPO learned on May 7, 2026, that personal information may have been included in the compromised data.

Information Exposed:

  • Social Security numbers
  • Driver’s license numbers
  • Health insurance information
  • Medical information
  • Passport numbers

The breach was linked to a ransomware attack by a group known as Akira, which claimed to have obtained sensitive information and posted about the incident on the dark web on Nov. 25, 2025.

A total of 1,726 individuals in the United States were affected, including residents of Maine and Vermont. Written notifications were sent to affected individuals on May 27, 2026.
