Continental Bank has experienced a major data breach. On April 10, 2025, the bank was notified that a cybercriminal attempted to gain access to it's network through a CrushFTP server vulnerability. An investigation determined that the cybersecurity incident may have compromised sensitive customer personal and financial data.

Exposed information includes first and last names, Social Security numbers, dates of birth, driver's license numbers or other state issued identification numbers, financial account numbers and routing numbers, financial institution names and login information.

The breach is considered severe since the hacked data could be used for identity theft or financial fraud if misused. Continental Bank published an updated Notice of Data Security Incident on its website on Aug. 4, 2025 and disclosed the data breach to the New Hampshire Attorney General's office on Aug. 8, 2025.

Continental Bank's

Continental Bancorporation took action to secure its systems by patching the CrushFTP vulnerability and engaging external cybersecurity experts to assist with the investigation. In addition to required state and federal disclosures, affected individuals will be notified.

Credit monitoring will be offered to impacted individuals whose Social Security numbers were compromised. The bank has established a dedicated call center for questions at 1-866-561-6086, Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Central Time

If you receive a notice from Continental Bank about this breach, you may want to:

  • Enroll in free credit monitoring services, if offered.
  • Monitor your credit reports and financial accounts for any unusual activity.
  • Be alert for phishing emails or phone calls that may use your exposed information.
  • Consider placing a fraud alert or credit freeze with major credit bureaus.

For more information about the financial organization, visit the Continental Bancorporation website.

Protect Your Data

A breach notice means your personal details could be circulating far beyond the organization involved. One practical step is continuous monitoring: services such as Identity Defender (included with an ExpressVPN subscription) can automatically check dark-web markets, flag new credit-file activity, and request removal of your information from data-broker sites.

This kind of “early-warning system” can’t undo a breach, but it can help you spot misuse quickly and limit further exposure. ExpressVPN is offering 61% off, risk-free for 30 days, with ID Theft Insurance included and no extra cost for those who sign up for one or two years.
