On April 25, 2025, Community Counseling of Bristol County, Inc. (CCBC) discovered that it had experienced a major data breach. The incident was first detected on May 20, 2024, when CCBC identified unauthorized access to its network.

Following an extensive forensic investigation, it was determined that between May 18 and May 20, 2024, certain files containing sensitive personal and health information were accessed or possibly acquired by an unauthorized party.

The breach affected a total of 45,960 individuals in the United States, including 30 residents of Maine.

The exposed information includes both personally identifiable information (PII) and protected health information (PHI): names, addresses, dates of birth, Social Security numbers, and health insurance information.

Community Counseling of Bristol County's response

Upon discovering the breach, CCBC launched a thorough investigation with the assistance of external cybersecurity professionals experienced in handling similar incidents. The organization conducted a comprehensive forensic analysis to determine the scope and impact of the breach.

As a precaution, CCBC began notifying affected individuals in writing on May 19, 2025. The organization is offering complimentary credit monitoring and identity protection services through Experian IdentityWorks Credit 3B for a set period. This service provides credit monitoring across all three major credit bureaus, identity theft insurance, and access to identity restoration specialists.
