If you lived in the United States and received a notice from WakeMed that your personal or health-related information was transmitted or potentially transmitted to Meta (formerly Facebook) due to WakeMed’s use of the Meta Pixel on its patient portal or websites between March 2018 and May 2022, you may be eligible to submit a claim for a cash award from a class action settlement.

WakeMed has agreed to pay $2,450,000 to settle a class action lawsuit for allegedly transmitting or potentially transmitting patient information to Meta through the use of the Meta Pixel on its MyChart patient portal and other WakeMed websites. The lawsuit claims that this resulted in the unauthorized sharing of personally identifiable and protected health information. .

Who can is eligible for a privacy settlement payout?

Class members must meet the following criteria:

  • They resided in the United States at any time between March 2018 and May 2022 and accessed WakeMed's MyChart patient portal or other WakeMed websites during that time.
  • They received a notice from WakeMed stating that your personal or health-related information was transmitted or potentially transmitted to Meta (Facebook) due to the use of the Meta Pixel on WakeMed’s MyChart patient portal or other WakeMed websites.

How much will the WakeMed class action settlement payment be?

Pro rata cash payment: Each approved claimant will receive an equal share of the net settlement fund. Payment amount will be determined by the number of valid claims filed.

How to claim a privacy violation class action rebate

To receive a settlement payment, class members must submit a claim form by the deadline of September 8, 2025. Claims can be submitted online or a PDF claim form can be printed to fill out and mail to the settlement administrator.

$2.45 Million class action settlement fund

The $2,450,000 settlement fund will include:

  • Settlement administration costs: To be determined
  • Attorneys' fees: Up to $816,666.67
  • Attorneys' expenses: Not to exceed $40,000
  • Service awards to class representatives: $2,500 each
  • Payments to class members: Remaining settlement funds
