Why are there class action settlements?
The class action lawsuits alleged Argos, Evans, Lafarge and Thomas engaged in an unlawful conspiracy to fix, raise, maintain or stabilize the price of ready-mix concrete in the Savannah area, violating Section 1 of the Sherman Act. The plaintiffs claimed this conduct resulted in artificially high prices for purchasers.
The defendants denied all allegations but agreed to settle to avoid the expense and uncertainty of a possible trial.
