
Consumers who received a formal notice from Rea Magnet Wire Co. Inc. informing them a threat actor accessed their personal information without authorization in a data breach that occurred on or about Sept. 9, 2023, may qualify to claim up to $5,000 from a class action settlement.
Rea Magnet Wire agreed to settle a class action lawsuit alleging it failed to protect employee personal information, which led to a data breach exposing sensitive data to cybercriminals.
Who is eligible to file a Rea Magnet Wire claim?
Class members must have received written notification from Rea Magnet Wire Co. Inc. stating a threat actor accessed their personal information without authorization during the Sept. 9, 2023, data breach.
There are approximately 3,800 individuals in the settlement class. The settlement administrator maintains a class list, and only individuals on this list can participate in the settlement.
How much is the data breach payout?
- Ordinary out-of-pocket expenses: Up to $500 for expenses, such as professional fees (attorneys, accountants, credit repair, etc.), costs to freeze/unfreeze credit, credit monitoring costs and miscellaneous expenses (notary, postage, mileage, etc.), that occurred between the date of the breach and seven days after the notice was sent
- Extraordinary out-of-pocket expenses: Up to $5,000 for actual, documented and unreimbursed monetary losses caused by misuse of personal information or fraud/identity theft associated with the data breach. The loss must have occurred between the date of the breach and seven days after notice was sent, and the class member must have attempted to recover the loss (such as via credit monitoring or identity theft insurance).
- Lost time: Up to $100 for up to four hours of self-certified time spent dealing with the data breach ($25 per hour)
- Alternative cash payment: $75 if the class member does not claim out-of-pocket losses or lost time
- Identity theft protection: Three years of credit monitoring and identity theft protection services, including $1,000,000 in identity theft insurance, at no cost
How to claim a class action rebate
Class members can file a claim online or download and print a PDF claim form (Page 41 of Exhibit 1), fill it out and mail it to the settlement administrator. The claim form deadline is Aug. 2, 2025.

Is proof or documentation required?
- For out-of-pocket losses (ordinary or extraordinary), class members must provide third-party documentation (such as receipts, bills or other non-self-prepared documents) showing the data breach most likely caused the expenses or losses.
- For lost time, class members must provide a description of the activities performed and attest to the time spent.

When is the Rea Magnet Wire data breach settlement payout date?
Payments will be distributed approximately 30 days after the court grants final approval of the settlement and any appeals are resolved.
Why did this class action settlement happen?
The class action lawsuit alleged a data breach on or about Sept. 9, 2023, allowed cybercriminals to access Rea Magnet Wire Co. Inc.'s networks and compromised employee personal information. The plaintiff claimed Rea Magnet Wire was liable for negligence, negligence per se, breach of implied contract, unjust enrichment and bailment.
The company denies any wrongdoing or liability. Both sides agreed to settle to avoid the cost, disruption and risk of further litigation and trial while providing benefits to affected individuals.
