Individuals who currently or previously owned or leased a specific 2022 Mitsubishi Outlander in the United States may qualify to claim reimbursement for hood repairs and/or receive a free hood replacement from a class action settlement.
Mitsubishi Motors North America Inc. agreed to settle a class action lawsuit alleging certain 2022 Mitsubishi Outlander vehicles had defective hoods that could flutter or bounce while driving.
Who can file a claim?
Class members must meet the following criteria:
- They are a current or former owner or lessee of a new or used 2022 Mitsubishi Outlander that is identified as a settlement class vehicle. Potential class members can verify VIN eligibility online.
- Mitsubishi Motors North America Inc. distributed their vehicle for sale or lease in the United States.
What are the settlement benefits?
- Warranty extension for hood replacement: Starting May 1, 2026, Mitsubishi will extend the new vehicle limited warranty for all eligible vehicles to cover 100% of the cost of hood replacement or repair for 18 months regardless of whether the vehicle is still under the original 5-year/60,000-mile warranty.
- For vehicles that received a hood repair more than 18 months before May 1, 2026, the warranty extension applies for six months from May 1, 2026.
- The warranty extension is transferable to subsequent owners if the time limitation has not expired.
- Exclusions apply if the hood issue resulted from damage, abuse, alteration, collision, vandalism or other external sources.
- Reimbursement for past repairs: Current and former car owners and lessees who paid out-of-pocket for hood repairs or replacements before May 1, 2026, can submit a claim to receive 100% reimbursement for parts and labor.
- Reimbursement for a repair or replacement performed by a service entity or facility that is not an authorized Mitsubishi dealer cannot exceed a maximum reimbursement amount (parts and labor) of $4,595.
- If an individual received any goodwill payments or reimbursements from Mitsubishi, insurance or other sources, the settlement administrator will reduce their reimbursement by those amounts.
- Rental car reimbursement: Individuals who incurred rental car expenses while the dealer repaired their vehicle for hood fluttering can submit a claim for reimbursement for those costs if the dealer did not provide them a complimentary loaner or rental.
