Individuals who received notice from Murfreesboro Medical Clinic P.A. in 2023 stating a data breach may have compromised their personal or health information could qualify to claim up to $500 in reimbursement plus two years of free credit monitoring from a class action settlement.
Murfreesboro Medical Clinic P.A. agreed to settle a class action lawsuit alleging a ransomware attack in April 2023 exposed the private information of patients and employees. The settlement provides monetary compensation and credit monitoring to those affected and mandates changes to MMC’s business practices to enhance data security.

- Up to $500 for documented, unreimbursed out-of-pocket expenses resulting from the data breach
- Up to $50 for lost time spent addressing the breach ($25 per hour for up to two hours and within the $500 cap for out-of-pocket expenses). Claims for lost time are subject to a $200,000 aggregate classwide cap. If total valid lost time claims exceed this cap, the settlement administrator will reduce each claim proportionally.

Why is there a class action settlement?
The class action lawsuit alleged that Murfreesboro Medical Clinic was negligent and breached statutory and common law duties, which allowed third-party criminals to access private information during a ransomware attack in April 2023.
While MMC denies any wrongdoing, it agreed to settle to avoid the costs and burdens of further litigation.
