Why did this class action settlement happen?
The class action lawsuit was filed because FPI Management Inc. allegedly failed to protect the personal information of residents and former residents during a cyberattack in August 2020. Plaintiffs claimed this failure increased the risk of identity theft and violated several California laws, including the Consumer Privacy Act and Customer Records Act.
FPI Management denied the allegations but agreed to settle the class action in order to avoid the risks and expense of continued litigation.
