
Current and former customers who received a notice stating the June 2025 Carter Credit Union data breach may have compromised their personal information could qualify to submit a claim for up to $2,500 from a class action settlement. The cybersecurity incident impacted approximately 105,185 individuals.
Carter Credit Union agreed to settle a class action lawsuit alleging a cyberattack exposed sensitive personal information belonging to customers and other individuals. The plaintiffs claimed Carter Credit Union failed to adequately protect current and former customer data, which included names, addresses, Social Security numbers, financial account details, medical and health insurance information and dates of birth.
Who can file a claim for a data breach payout?
Class members are individuals whose personally identifiable information the Carter Credit Union data breach that began on or about June 25, 2025, compromised.
How much are settlement payments?
Class members have the following benefit options:
- Reimbursement of out-of-pocket losses: Class members can claim up to $2,500 in documented out-of-pocket losses that occurred between June 25, 2025, and Nov. 19, 2026, and are fairly traceable to the data breach. This includes losses due to identity theft or fraud; fees for credit reports, credit monitoring or freezing/unfreezing credit; costs to replace IDs; and postage for contacting financial institutions.
- Alternative cash payment: Class members who do not claim reimbursement for out-of-pocket losses can submit a claim to receive a one-time cash payment of $50.
- Credit monitoring: All class members are eligible to enroll in CyEx Financial Shield Complete, which includes $1 million in financial fraud insurance and monitoring for fraud, identity theft, unauthorized transactions and high-risk activity.
How to claim a class action rebate
To receive a settlement payment, class members can file a claim online or print and complete the PDF claim form and mail or email it to the settlement administrator.

- To submit a claim online, class members must provide the LoginID and PIN from the settlement notice they received.
- To submit an out-of-pocket losses claim, class members must provide supporting documentation, which may include receipts, bank or credit card statements and other proof of identity theft or fraud.

When is the Carter Credit Union data breach settlement payout date?
