Rodan + Fields consultants who worked in California at any time between March 1, 2020, and June 20, 2025, may be eligible to claim a cash payment from a class action settlement.

The Rodan + Fields Co. agreed to pay $8 million to resolve a class action lawsuit alleging wage and hour violations, including unpaid wages, unreimbursed business expenses and penalties under California’s Private Attorneys General Act.

Who can receive a Rodan + Fields payout?

There are two main class member groups; however, class members may be members of both groups:

  • Class members: Anyone who entered into a consultant agreement with Rodan + Fields in California and was classified as an independent contractor for at least one day between March 1, 2020, and June 20, 2025
  • PAGA claimants: Anyone who was a consultant for at least one day between March 1, 2023, and June 20, 2025. This group is eligible for penalties under the California Private Attorneys General Act.

Class members' eligibility and payment amounts are determined by company records, which include registration dates, fees paid, sales made and purchases from Rodan + Fields.

How much is the class action settlement payment?

Pro rata cash payment: The amount each class member receives is determined by a point system that reflects their activity as a consultant. The net settlement fund will be distributed pro rata based on each member’s points.

Points are awarded as follows:

  • Automatic points (from company records):
    • 0.5 points per week registered as a consultant
    • 0.25 points per annual fee paid
    • 0.25 points per PulsePro fee paid
    • 0.25 points per sale made
    • 0.1 points per purchase from Rodan + Fields
  • Supplemental points (if the class member submits a claim form):
    • 0.1 points per hour worked per week (up to five hours/week)
    • 0.1 points per month for a cellular data plan
    • 0.1 points per month for home internet
    • 0.5 points per business expense (up to six expenses)

PAGA claimant cash payment: The settlement sets aside $500,000 for Private Attorneys General Act penalties with $125,000 distributed to eligible consultants. Each PAGA payment is calculated by dividing $125,000 by the total number of PAGA registered periods worked by all claimants then multiplying by the number of periods the individual class member worked.

Why is there a class action lawsuit and settlement?

The class action lawsuit alleged Rodan + Fields misclassified consultants as independent contractors, failed to pay wages, including overtime and minimum wages, did not reimburse business expenses, and did not provide meal/rest breaks or accurate wage statements. The plaintiffs also sought civil penalties under the Private Attorneys General Act.

The company denies these allegations but agreed to settle to avoid the uncertainty and expense of continuing litigation and the possibility of a trial.
