Why did this class action settlement happen?
The class action lawsuit alleged Amazon’s return and refund policies violated Washington consumer protection and other laws. The plaintiffs claimed some customers did not receive proper refunds or Amazon incorrectly charged them after they returned products.
Amazon denied any wrongdoing but agreed to settle to avoid the expense and uncertainty involved in further litigation and a possible trial. As part of the settlement, Amazon also agreed to implement improvements to its return and refund processes for a specified period.
