Sentinel Security Life was established in 1948, originally to help families fund funeral expenses and burial costs. Over the years, the company expanded its offerings to include a range of life insurance and annuity products, as well as hospital indemnity plans.

Atlantic Coast Life Insurance Company (ACL) is a Charleston, SC-based insurer founded in 1925, specializing in final expense/preneed life insurance and annuities, known for its and fast claims payment, offering fixed and fixed indexed annuities for retirement income planning with features like optional riders for enhanced growth and income.

They serve families nationwide, focusing on "end of life" solutions and retirement security, with products like the Income Navigator and Safe Haven annuities

What Happened?

In April 2025, the companies discovered suspicious activity on their network. An investigation revealed that between April 7 and April 15, 2025, an unauthorized actor accessed certain computer systems belonging to the companies. Sensitive files stored on these systems were potentially accessed or acquired.

The companies completed their review of the affected files in December 2025. So far, the breach has affected at least 57,253 individuals in the U.S., including 198 residents in Massachusetts and 24 in Maine. However, this is an ongoing investigation, and the number of impacted individuals is subject to change.
