Parks Heritage Federal Credit Union agreed to resolve a class action lawsuit claiming a targeted cyberattack that exposed sensitive customer data, including names, Social Security numbers and financial account information.

Who can file a claim?

Class members must meet the following criteria:

  • They reside in the United States.
  • The Parks Heritage Federal Credit Union data security incident that occurred between July 17, 2024, and July 27, 2024, compromised their personal information.
  • They received notice of the data security incident from Parks Heritage Federal Credit Union.

How much can class members receive?

Class members may be eligible for one of two types of cash payments:

  • Cash payment A: documented losses: Class members can receive up to $4,500 for actual, unreimbursed, documented out-of-pocket losses related to the data breach. Eligible expenses include losses from identity theft or fraud, fees for credit reports or monitoring, and costs to replace IDs, postage and professional fees (such as attorneys’ or accountants’ fees). Class members may also claim up to four hours of lost time at $25 per hour (maximum $100). This is included within the $4,500 cap. Class members cannot claim expenses a third party already reimbursed.
  • Cash payment B: alternative cash payment: In lieu of documented losses, class members can receive a one-time payment of $75. No documentation is required for this option.

All eligible class members can also enroll in two years of CyEx Financial Shield Complete, which includes $1 million in financial fraud insurance and monitoring for identity theft, unauthorized transactions and high-risk activity.

Why is there a class action settlement?

The class action lawsuit alleged a targeted cyberattack in July 2024 exposed sensitive customer data Parks Heritage Federal Credit Union held. The plaintiffs claimed the company failed to adequately protect personal information, resulting in unauthorized access to files containing names, Social Security numbers and financial data.

Parks Heritage denied wrongdoing but agreed to settle to avoid the costs, risks and uncertainties of ongoing litigation.
