Ocuco is a provider of software solutions for the eyecare industry. Founded in Dublin, Ireland in 1993, the company develops platforms for optical retailers, eye hospitals, and optical labs, supporting both clinical and retail operations.

Ocuco’s main products include Acuitas, a practice management and electronic health record system, and Innovations, a lab management system. These products are used by more than 7,500 sites across 77 countries, ranging from independent optometrists to large retail chains and laboratories.

Ocuco employs nearly 300 people, with offices and staff in the US, Canada, Ireland, the UK, and several other countries.

What Happened?

Ocuco Inc experienced a major data breach. The incident was the result of a ransomware attack carried out by a group known as Kill Security (also known as KillSec).

The cybersecurity incident was posted on the dark web via the Tor network on April 1, 2025. The hackers gained access to Ocuco’s systems possibly exposed both both personally identifiable information (PII) and protected health information (PHI).

The data breach was disclosed to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services on May 30, 2025. It was reported that 240,961 individuals in the United States were affected.
