What Happened?

Between March 21, 2025, and April 6, 2025, Nelson University experienced a ransomware attack by the group Qilin.

The attackers claimed to have obtained sensitive data and threatened to publish it on the dark web. On April 16, 2025, the breach was posted on the Tor network, increasing the risk that personal information could be misused.

At this time, the information exposed as a result of the breach remains undisclosed but may have included names, Social Security numbers, financial information or contact information.

The data breach was disclosed to the California Attorney General on June 15, 2026. Nelson University notified affected individuals and set up a response line to answer questions about the incident.
