GeoTek Inc. $150,000 Data Breach Class Action Settlement

Current or former employees of GeoTek Inc. in the United States whose personal information a September 2023 cyberattack affected may be eligible to claim up to $2,000 in reimbursement for out-of-pocket expenses, a cash payment estimated at $25 for most claimants and $75 for California claimants, and/or two years of credit monitoring from a class action settlement.

GeoTek Inc. agreed to pay $150,000 to settle a class action lawsuit claiming a targeted cyberattack exposed sensitive employee data, including names, addresses and Social Security numbers.

Who can file a claim?

The class includes current and former employees of GeoTek Inc. who reside in the United States and whose information the September 2023 cybersecurity incident impacted.

How much can class members get?

Class members can claim several types of compensation, depending on their circumstances and preferences. The available benefits are:

• Out-of-pocket expense reimbursement: Class members who incurred actual, documented expenses as a result of the breach (such as fees for credit reports, credit monitoring, freezing/unfreezing credit, replacing IDs or purchasing postage to contact banks) can claim up to $2,000. They must have incurred these expenses between Sept. 1, 2023, and Dec. 1, 2026. Class members must provide supporting documentation, such as receipts, to substantiate their claim.
• Cash payment: Class members may also claim a one-time cash payment. The expected amount is $25 for most class members, but California residents may receive $75. The final payment amount depends on the number of claims submitted and the net settlement fund after deductions. This payment option does not require documentation.
• Credit monitoring services: All class members can enroll in two years of credit monitoring from one credit bureau. This service includes real-time credit file monitoring, dark web scanning, public records monitoring and up to $1 million in identity theft insurance. If the program detects suspicious activity, class members will have access to a fraud resolution agent for assistance.

If the total value of valid claims exceeds the net settlement fund, the settlement administrator will reduce payments on a pro rata basis.

How to claim a class action payout

Class members can file a claim online or download and print a PDF claim form, complete it and mail it to the settlement administrator.

They may also request a paper claim form by calling 888-428-6630 or emailing info@GeoTekCyberIncident.com.

Required proof and documentation

• For out-of-pocket expense reimbursement, class members must provide documentation, such as receipts or other records, showing the amount they spent or lost. Self-prepared notes are not sufficient by themselves, but class members may include them to supplement other documents.
• For credit monitoring and the cash payment, class members do not need to provide documentation beyond confirming their eligibility as a class member.
• For online claims, class members must provide the LoginID and PIN provided in their mailed notice.

Payout options

• Class members who file online can choose a digital payment via PayPal, Venmo or Zelle.
• Class members who file by mail will receive a paper check at the address they provide.
