On May 17, 2025, the Pasadena-based financial services firm, Wedbush Securities, experienced a data breach due to a misconfigured web-facing internal application. This vulnerability allowed unauthorized access to sensitive client data for nearly two months, from May 17 to July 11, 2025. The breach was discovered on July 11, 2025, after which the company secured the application and launched an investigation with the help of data privacy specialists.

According to a disclosure to the California Attorney General on Dec. 12, 2025, unauthorized actors may have accessed files containing personal information for a subset of clients. The types of information exposed included names, financial institution names, account numbers and Social Security numbers.
