Pulpdent Corp., a family-owned dental research and manufacturing company headquartered in Watertown, Massachusetts, disclosed a data breach resulting from a cyberattack on its computer network.

The company first detected unusual activity on its network on March 13, 2026, and took steps to contain the situation. Pulpdent launched an investigation into the scope of the incident.

On March 25, 2026, approximately 12 days after the company first detected the suspicious activity, a ransomware group known as INC RANSOM posted on the dark web, claiming to have obtained data belonging to Pulpdent.

On or about April 17, 2026, the company determined that personal information belonging to certain individuals may have been compromised including names, Social Security numbers, driver's licenses and financial account information.

The breach was disclosed to the Massachusetts Office of Consumer Affairs and Business Regulation on May 8, 2026. Pulpdent began sending notification letters to affected individuals on May 8, 2026.

Pulpdent's response to the breach

Pulpdent is offering affected individuals 24 months of complimentary credit monitoring and identity protection through Experian IdentityWorks. Key features of the membership include an Experian credit report at sign-up, ongoing credit monitoring of Experian files, access to identity restoration specialists and $1 million in identity theft insurance.

Affected individuals can activate their membership by visiting the Experian IdentityWorks enrollment page and entering the unique activation code included in their notification letter. Enrollment must be completed by Aug. 30, 2026.

For questions about the breach or help with enrollment, affected individuals can contact the dedicated helpline at 833-931-7577, available Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Eastern time. The helpline will remain active for 90 days from the date of the notification letter.

Steps to take if your information was exposed

  • Place a credit freeze with all three credit bureaus. Contact Equifax at 1-800-685-1111, Experian at 1-888-397-3742 and TransUnion at 1-888-909-8872 to prevent new accounts from being opened using stolen information.
  • Review credit reports for unfamiliar activity. Free credit reports are available at AnnualCreditReport.com and should be checked regularly for accounts, inquiries or addresses that seem unfamiliar.
  • Monitor bank and financial account statements closely. Watch for any unauthorized transactions and report suspicious activity to the financial institution right away.
  • Consider filing an IRS Identity Theft Affidavit. Submitting IRS Form 14039 can help protect tax records from fraudulent filings when a Social Security number has been compromised.
  • Place a fraud alert with one of the three credit bureaus. The bureau contacted will notify the other two, and businesses will be required to verify identity before issuing new credit.
  • Be cautious of phishing attempts that reference Pulpdent or this breach by name. Scammers may send emails, texts or phone calls pretending to be from Pulpdent or Experian in an attempt to collect additional personal information.
