Prosper Funding LLC, a financial lending company has experienced a cybersecurity incident. The company discovered suspicious unauthorized activity within its internal network. An investigation was launched and it was quickly determined that personally identifiable information (PII) was compromised.
Prosper has confirmed that sensitive personal information belonging to borrowers was obtained in the cyberattack. Exposed information includes names and Social Security numbers and other applicant and customer data such as contact information and financial account information.
Prosper published Cybersecurity Incident Customer FAQs on its website. The company also began emailing impacted consumers on Sept. 17, 2025. The communication to borrowers states that the investigation is still in early stages and will continue to be ongoing.
The finance company has not released the total number of individuals impacted by the data breach, but it could include several thousand borrowers and investors. The breach is considered severe, due to the fact it puts consumers at risk for identity theft and financial fraud.
In response to the breach, Prosper Funding LLC acted quickly to stop the cyberattack and notified law enforcement. The company will continue to work to identify impacted applicants, borrowers and investors and will make required state and federal disclosures. Prosper has stated that it will offer free credit monitoring to affected individuals after determining exactly what data was impacted.
If you believe your personal information may have been compromised in this breach:
Prosper has also set up a dedicated response line at 833-918-9464, available from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. CT Monday through Friday, for individuals seeking more information or assistance.

A breach notice means your personal details could be circulating far beyond the organization involved. One practical step is continuous monitoring: services such as Identity Defender (included with an ExpressVPN subscription) can automatically check dark-web markets, flag new credit-file activity, and request removal of your information from data-broker sites.
This kind of “early-warning system” can’t undo a breach, but it can help you spot misuse quickly and limit further exposure. ExpressVPN is offering 61% off, risk-free for 30 days, with ID Theft Insurance included and no extra cost for those who sign up for one or two years.
