Pipestone Holdings LLC, a Minnesota-based agricultural company that specializes in swine production services, disclosed a data breach that exposed consumers' names and Social Security numbers. The total number of individuals affected nationwide has not been disclosed.

On May 5, 2026, the group posted a claim on the Tor network, stating that it had stolen 137 gigabytes of data from Pipestone Holdings.

According to the dark web posting, the stolen data reportedly includes detailed client and employee personal documents such as passports, Social Security numbers and driver's licenses. The group also claimed to have obtained financial and medical information, databases containing personal details, litigation documents, contracts and agreements, insurance files and non-disclosure agreements.

The company's notification letter to affected consumers confirmed that the information involved in the breach included first and last names and Social Security numbers.

The letter did not provide specific dates for when the attack occurred or when it was first discovered.

The breach was reported to the Massachusetts Office of Consumer Affairs and Business Regulation on May 7, 2026. Notification letters to affected individuals were dated the same day.

Steps to take if your information was exposed

  • Place a credit freeze with all three credit bureaus by contacting Equifax (1-888-298-0045), Experian (1-888-397-3742) and TransUnion (1-800-680-7289) to prevent new accounts from being opened using stolen information.
  • Consider placing a fraud alert with any one of the three major credit bureaus, which will then notify the other two on the individual's behalf.
  • Request free credit reports at AnnualCreditReport.com and review them carefully for any unfamiliar accounts or credit inquiries.
  • Monitor bank accounts, credit card statements and other financial records closely for any unauthorized transactions or suspicious activity.
  • Be cautious of phishing attempts that reference Pipestone Holdings or this data breach by name, as scammers often exploit breach notifications to trick people into revealing additional personal information.
