New American Funding experienced a data breach compromising sensitive personal consumer data. On June 6, 2025, New American Funding was alerted of suspicious activity involving on of their vendors, Mobile Notary Zone (MNZ).
An investigation revealed that a cybercriminal gained access to Mobile Notary Zone's systems and may have taken documents containing New American Funding consumer data. Mobile Notary Zone has not confirmed the exact number of individuals affected.
Compromised information may include names, addresses, Social Security numbers, dates of birth, financial account details and other financial information. New American Funding is notifying all customers whose information was provided to Mobile Notary Zone for notary services involving loan closing documents.
The review of affected records was completed by June 26, 2025. New American Funding started to disclose the data breach to the Attorneys General's offices on July 11, 2025, including in the states of California (at least 500 residents affected), New Hampshire (324 residents affected), Massachusetts (33 residents affected) and Washington State (1,991 residents affected).
Immediately upon learning of the incident, New American Funding terminated all services with Mobile Notary Zone. In addition to required state and federal disclosures, all affected individuals will be notified by mail.
The company is also offering a free membership to Experian IdentityWorks, which includes credit monitoring, identity restoration support and $1 million in identity theft insurance.
